VIDEO: Highland Village Candidate Forum

The Cross Timbers Gazette held a Highland Village City Council candidate forum on Wednesday night at Highland Village City Hall.

There are two contested races in Highland Village; City Council Place 1 (Mayor), and Place 4.

Mayor Charlotte Wilcox has filed for re-election and is being challenged by Jim Archibald.

Three people filed for the unexpired Place 4 term of Patrick Coon who resigned in December: Barbara Fleming, Dan Jaworski, and Richard Rega.

Longtime Flower Mound resident and newspaper columnist Bob Weir moderated the forum.

Early voting begins April 25 for the May 7 municipal and school board elections across southern Denton County .

    Mr. Archibald,
No, I am not the self-appointed “sign police”…however, having been involved in MANY campaigns/elections over my 27 years in Highland Village I can say with absolute certainty that I cannot take any candidate seriously that does not familiarize themselves with the rules & regulations. I posted comments about your signs – you deleted the picture of your sign and my post and later came back with a “corrected” version of your sign. Problem is that it is still not within the TEC guidelines. On top of that, you have a video where you proudly stand in from of your truck with its magnetic sign – giving the very distinct impression that you are the incumbent mayor in Highland Village (not to mention to disclaimers on the magnet either). The video presents your perception (not legal opinion) of term limits – and you take exception to our sitting Mayor being allowed to run in the upcoming election….and all the while you yourself – a highly educated professional according to your bio – cannot seem to follow Texas election guidelines…this is astonishing to me! For your personal use here is the link and I suggest you read it a few times so as to not be confused. You might also ask around about other local council
members who found out firsthand the cost of that little 3 letter word (“for”)…I know the $2000 fine they had to pay (along with attorney fees) taught them the hard way that you simply CANNOT misrepresent yourself to the voters! Yes, you can delete my post again – but do yourself a favor and get your own house in order rather than rant about term limits.
