Lewisville resident Katherine Sells announced Monday that she will file an application to run for the Place 4 seat on the Lewisville Independent School District, when filing opens on Wednesday.

The seat is currently held by Kris Vaughn, who has stated that she does not plan to run for re-election in May when her term expires.

“I have served Lewisville ISD’s students for more than 10 years, in many capacities. When leaders that I trust and respect ask me to consider accepting the Trustee responsibility, it is a call that I am compelled to answer,” Sells said. “After discussion with my family, prayer and research, I am pleased to announce my bid for the Place 4 seat on LISD School Board.”

Lewisville ISD encompasses 127-square miles and serves more than 52,000 students from thirteen municipalities including Argyle, Carrollton, Coppell, Copper Canyon, Double Oak, Flower Mound, Frisco, Grapevine, Highland Village, Hebron, Lewisville, Plano and The Colony.

Sells currently serves as president of the Lewisville Council of PTAs, the governing body of all PTA chapters in the district, for which she has also been the 1st Vice President-Programs. She has served in PTA leadership roles at three different LISD campuses, including president, treasurer, parliamentarian and council delegate.

In addition to PTA service, Sells has served or is serving in many LISD programs, including the Facilities Assessment Team, District Leadership Team, Interview Panel, HBL Mentor at Creek Valley Middle School, and Advisory Committee for the Medical City “Kids Teaching Kids” program. She is also a graduate of the Inside LISD Leadership Program.

“I believe that having served as a LISD resident volunteer on many of the critical operational teams that help guide our schools forward has given me insight that will be valuable to the Trustees, as well as to Superintendent Kevin Rogers, and the LISD leadership team,” Sells said. “A true hands-on understanding of how LISD works from the inside out means I will be ready to contribute on Day 1 of my term.”

Sells has a bachelor’s degree in business from Texas A&M–Corpus Christi, a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Central Missouri, and has studied graduate-level education at St. Edwards University in Austin.  She is currently the Membership Assistant for First Baptist Church Carrollton, and also serves as a Youth Connect Leader.  Sells also worked for the City of Dallas for five years, as a Relocation Specialist.

Sells met husband Chris at a Bible study at First Baptist Church Carrollton, where they remain members today. They have two children: Sam is a senior at Hebron High School, and Rachel is in 8th grade at Killian Middle School.

Jeanan Hamilton, a 16-year resident of Flower Mound, will serve as the treasurer for the campaign.

Filing for Lewisville ISD school board positions will run January 20-February 19, 2016. The election will take place on May 7, 2016, with early voting beginning on April 25, 2016.
