Foodie Friday: Dido’s Urban Grill in Flower Mound

IMG_6141As sad as I was to hear that Bocelli’s was leaving Flower Mound, I was also excited to learn about the restaurant that would be taking its place – Dido’s Urban Grill.

So, our team headed out this week to learn about how this family-run restaurant came into being and what they hope to bring to Flower Mound.

Chef Owner, Gary DiDominick, and his father, Ernie, decided to open a restaurant together after both spending years working in the food industry. Chef Gary has been working as a professional chef for about 15 years in places like Arizona and San Francisco and has brought flavors and techniques that he’s learned in those places to the menu at Dido’s.

And Ernie spent several years working on the business-side of the food industry. So, with their powers combined, it seemed like the perfect idea to come together and open a restaurant!IMG_6129

I always enjoy heading to restaurants where the whole family is involved because that feeling spills over into all other aspects of the restaurant – the service, the food and the atmosphere. So, I’m definitely happy to have another family-owned restaurant here in Flower Mound!

And I also appreciated talking to Chef Gary and Ernie about the care with which they prepare each dish. Everything is made from scratch  – which you can tell when you eat their food.

Now would you like to hear about some of Chef Gary’s delicious and unique creations?

We first started out with a couple of their appetizers – their Texas Brandywine Tomato Soup with shrimp and grits and their incredibly popular Chicken and Waffle Sliders served with a Bourbon-maple sauce. The soup had a creamy, rich texture and then hit you with a little kick of spicy at the end. And the sliders had the perfect combination of softness from the waffles and crunch from the chicken, paired with the smoky-mapley flavor of the sauce.IMG_6139

Then we ordered four different lunch entrees for us all to share. We ordered a couple of their salads including the Steak Cobb Salad which comes served with your traditional Cobb ingredients, tender pieces of grilled steak and a Worcestershire Vinaigrette; and we also tried the Grilled Summer Chicken Salad which comes topped with mixed berries toasted pecans, goat cheese and a lemon vinaigrette. For a lighter lunch option, these were both great salads to try out!

We also tried their Lemongrass Steak Wrap filled with fresh mushrooms, bean Sprouts, shaved iceberg, carrots, celery and a Sriracha aioli as well as their D’s “Famous” Burger which comes topped with thick slices of bacon, aged cheddar and their homemade ancho pulled pork, and is served with some of their delicious Parmesan Garlic Fries.

And then when Ernie started telling us all about their desserts, we knew we couldn’t leave without trying a few so we got their FRIED FLUFFERNUTTER  which is a dessert that Elvis himself would be proud of. It’s essentially a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich served with a berry coulis and a side of vanilla ice cream. And it was DELICIOUS.

We also tried some of their Chocolate Bread Pudding served with salted caramel ice cream. I’ve never had bread pudding made with a chocolate custard before, but it added a little bit of darkness and richness that you don’t get with other bread puddings.IMG_6136

The great thing about Dido’s is that it has options for every person and every occasion. They have a kid’s menu so that if you moms want to meet up to try one of their great salads for lunch, your kids will be happy (or you could just order them the Fluffernutter and that would work too…).

Or you can head to Dido’s to enjoy brunch and bottomless mimosas on the weekends from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Or you can head in for date night and enjoy a glass of wine or one of their 4 craft beers with dinner.IMG_6146

Foodie Friday is happy to welcome Dido’s Urban Grill to Flower Mound and we wish them all the best as they get started here in our town. I look forward to heading back to try their Korean Sliders, their Ultimate Grilled Cheese and their Mac & Cheese Waffles (yes, there is actual mac & cheese in the waffles).

So, head out this weekend to meet Ernie and Chef Gary – try out some of their food made with only the freshest of ingredients and welcome them to our town! And good luck staying cool this weekend, Foodies!
