There are several alternate routes for southbound FM 2499 traffic, with FM 3040 being the detour with the largest capacity. In addition, Forest Vista Drive and FM 1171 are both good alternate routes for motorists traveling to and through Lewisville. Spinks Road and Lakeside Parkway will serve as alternate routes to State Highway 121.

Early Thursday morning, Flower Mound Mayor Tom Hayden has issued a declaration Declaration of Disaster Proclamation and Mandatory Evacuation Order. Although no mandatory evacuations are anticipated, the order allows emergency responders to evacuate residents as public safety and welfare dictate.
