Dam road at Lake Grapevine closed indefinitely

dam_road_flood (2)Fairway Drive, commonly known as the dam road, will remain closed until further notice, according to Grapevine officials.

Aerial footage shot June 2 by the City of Grapevine shows water flowing over the spillway and it is expected to continue for several weeks.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct controlled releases from the dam once the Trinity River system is better able to handle additional water. Once lake levels recede, crews will need to repair the extensive damage caused by the water flow over Fairway Drive.

Unfortunately, drivers that utilized the dam road for their commute have been forced to seek alternate routes, especially FM 2499. This has caused additional traffic backups through the DFW Connector construction area.

A traffic specialist, hired by Northgate Constructors, recently optimized signal timing within the construction zone; however, the additional vehicles on the roadway translate into longer drive times regardless of the signal timing, according to the Town of Flower Mound.
