A member of the track team, participant in Marcus spirit days, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Rho Kappa member, Tobias is ranked sixth in her graduating class of 754 students.
The Marcus High School senior said that participating in so many different activities has really helped her gain perspective on her own contributions to the school and community.
“Marcus is such a big school, and it is kind of easy to get lost,” Tobias said. “I think that doing all of the different activities really helps you to find your place.”
Tobias runs the 100 and 300 hurdles in track, and is on the 4X400 relay, and also volunteers as an alter server at church and baby sits in her free time.
Tobias said the aspect of attending Marcus she has enjoyed the most about her high school career is the relationships she has formed.
“I think that really getting to know everyone through all of the activities I have been involved in,” Tobias said. “Just getting to know a bunch of different people I would never have expected to meet, from classes with kids who are really studious to track, where I meet kids who are really athletic and outgoing. It really has introduced me to a wide variety of people.”
Tobias said the thing she enjoys the most about the world today is technology.
“I think that we are really connected,” Tobias said. “It is so easy to gain information, and sometimes it can be overwhelming, but I really think it helps us to open up and expand our views.”
Tobias said that if there was one thing she could change, it would be an issue that is about to affect her in the very near future.
“I think the rate at which college tuition is increasing is out of control,” Tobias said. “It makes it really difficult for a lot of people.”
Tobias is hoping to attend Yale, SMU, Tulane or Brown University.
