Walking into Yellow Rose Steak and Chop House in Flower Mound’s Parker Square, a sense of inviting warmth and camaraderie envelop the visitor.
The elegant yet cozy atmosphere doesn’t require a tie, though. The idea, says owners Svetlana and Sky Schoggins, is to serve good food in a friendly, welcoming place – a place you’ll want to return to time and again.
The Schoggins bought the restaurant on Dec. 16, 2013 – a decision to work, live and play in Flower Mound as the couple raise their two children.
With five degrees between them, both were ensconced in corporate jobs from accounting to computer engineering and more. But they were looking for something closer to home.
“We spent a year looking at the market,” Svetlana said, adding they chose the restaurant because of where it was located. “This business is in Flower Mound, close to home, and we get to interact with the community.”
The couple took a leap of faith and haven’t looked back since.
To them, it’s all about great quality and good service.
On the quality end, they serve prime beef from the top 2 percent of U.S. meat and create side dishes from scratch. They added a bar menu to feed patrons stopping in for a drink or to visit with Daniel Bristol, the bar manager who enjoys barrel-aging his own bourbons for the restaurant. Bristol keeps five Texas craft beers on tap at any given time and, if you ask, can tell you the history of each one.
The chef, who is the same chef when the restaurant originally opened, has worked in steak houses in New York where he was head chef of a large crew.
“He’s one of those people very dedicated to the restaurant,” Sky said of Chef Isaul Contreras. “We know we have good people working for us.”
Svetlana agrees: “It’s a big family here.”
