The Argyle High School senior is the captain of the cross country team and the track team, as well as the Student Council President, and said she likes being involved because she believes it is how students should be.
“It’s something that I have always loved, and something that I think is important to do as a student,” Roberts said.
Roberts is also the Public Relations Officer for the National Honor Society, Secretary of the UNICEF club and holds down a part time job to boot.
The AHS student said she is able to devote time to every activity by staying organized.
“It really comes down to balancing my time,” Roberts said. “I have to make sure of getting done everything that I have to get done and keeping a schedule of everything that I do.”
Roberts said that she believes the biggest issue affecting young people today is something that really holds them back.
“Honestly, I think it is not taking responsibility for their actions,” Roberts said. “I think it is so easy these days for kids to blame things on other people and not taking responsibility by saying ‘this is my fault—I’m sorry I did this.’
“It’s just easier to blame other people, and I think that really affects our society. We are the next generation, and if we don’t learn to accept responsibility then we are never going to learn from our mistakes.”
Roberts said she also believes there is a major misconception about young people, as well.
“I think it’s that we don’t know what we’re talking about,” Roberts said. “I just think that teenagers are sometimes looked at as naive or immature, but sometimes, kids actually know what they’re talking about. I think that if adults listened to kids every once in a while, then they would actually learn something, too.”
Roberts went on a mission trip last summer to Zambia with her church, Cross Timbers Community Church, and said that experience among others has inspired her to study Mission work at Abilene Christian University.
Roberts received a merit based scholarship to the university for next fall.
