Flower Mound to launch program to recognize outstanding resident or group

The Town of Flower Mound is planning to roll out a new program to recognize the outstanding citizen or group this year.

“We need to do something to recognize people who do things to help people and volunteer,” said Mayor Tom Hayden during a presentation Thursday.

The plan is for applications to be accepted by the town secretary for most of the year with an ad hoc committee chosen by the Flower Mound Town Council in the fall. The applications would be reviewed with the committee selecting the winner and making an announcement at a town council meeting at the end of the year.

The designation is open to groups based in Flower Mound and Flower Mound residents.

An application form will be developed and made available soon, officials said.

Council member Steve Dixon said he liked the idea of not having the council directly involved in selecting the winner.

“I would like it to be as much of a surprise to us on the council as it is to the public,” Dixon said.
