Texas State Representative Ron Simmons stopped by the office of Mike Honea Agency on Wednesday to congratulate owner Mike Honea on 44 years of service to the Denton County area.
He presented Honea with a Texas state flag that had been flown at the state capitol building and a copy of a resolution acknowledging and thanking him for his dedication to the local area.
Lewisville Mayor Dean Ueckert also stopped by to congratulate Honea, whose business is located at 1965 McGee Lane, Suite B, in Lewisville.
Born in Dallas, Honea attended Kemper Military School and College in Missouri and later joined the U.S. Armed Forces in Vietnam, serving from 1966-1969 where he earned a Purple Heart among other service awards. In 1970, Honea started his office with the former Vernon Evans Real Estate Group at Interstate 35E and FM 1171 where he also worked in real estate as well as the insurance industry.
As his business grew, Honea relocated his office and focused on insurance. He currently has a staff of five people whom he says are dedicated and very much a part of his success.
Honea says he believes in giving back to the community and has served in several capacities including eight years on the Lewisville Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
In the past 44 years, Honea said he has seen tremendous growth across Denton County.
“I’ve been on the edge of the growth pattern,” he said. “I’ve watched growth from Lewisville to Oklahoma. Growth is everywhere.”
Honea said he was honored by the recognition by state officials. “I feel priviledged to receive recognition from the state and to know they are aware of the time of service in business,” he said.
What is the key to success in business? Honea says it is a combination of endurance, focus, commitment to excellent customer service and staying positive.
“We try to take care of our customers and make sure they are satisfied with our product,” he said.
