Argyle Town Council appoints Dr. Jay Haynes to fill unexpired term

Argyle Town Council appointed Dr. Jay Haynes for the open Place 4 seat on the council Tuesday. Dr. Haynes will finish the unexpired term of Dr. Jeff Cantrell, who resigned recently for personal reasons.

Dr. Cantrell was elected in May 2013 and his term expires in May 2015, town officials said.

The appointment and swear-in followed an executive session to discuss town council succession.

Dr. Jay Haynes currently serves as senior medical director, Health and Wellness at JPS Health Network. He has also worked as senior vice president and medical director for JPS Health Network and as chief medical officer for John Peter Smith Hospital.

He is a family medical doctor in Fort Worth with affiliations with a number of hospitals in the area including Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine. He has been in practice for at least 29 years.

A graduate of the University of Texas Dallas, Haynes has earned a masters of science in medical management and is a certified physician executive. He received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. His specialties include board certified family medicine and occupational health medical review.
