The Denton County Republican Party is planning a 2014 Victory Kickoff Rally for Sunday, Sept. 14, at the North Texas Fair Grounds located at 2217 N. Carroll Blvd in Denton.

Scheduled for 4:30-6:30 p.m., the event will feature live music, free hot dogs and a presentation by retired Col. John Antal, U.S. Army on “Leadership lessons of Ronald Reagan.”

Antal is a military historian, author and leadership expert who has published 13 books on military and leadership subjects as well as written hundreds of magazine articles, according to a news release.

Antal retired after serving 30 years in the U.S. Army where he commanded combat units from platoon to regiment and served in high-level positions including two years in the Pentagon as the special assistant to the chairman of joint chiefs of staff.

An Airborne Ranger, Antal is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the Army Command and General Staff College and the Army War College where he earned both a bachelor of science and a master’s degree in military science.

The rally will also feature local and statewide candidates who are facing opponents in the November election. Dianne Costa, Denton County Republican Party outreach chairman, also is planning a “Get Out the Vote” message during the rally.

“This is an exciting time to be a Denton County Republican.” said Denton County Republican Party Chairman Dianne Edmondson in the news release. “We have a great slate of local and statewide candidates to get out the vote for this November. Bring your family and friends and come join us on Sept. 14th for a victory rally you’ll be talking about to election night and beyond!”
