Local golfers will rally for the cure

The statistics say one in eight women will be impacted by breast cancer in her lifetime.

The Lantana Women’s Golf Association has been making an impact in the local breast cancer movement since 2006. This year, the ninth annual Rally for the Cure golf tournament will take place on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Lantana Golf Club.

The event is open to the public and men, women and mixed teams are invited to sign up and play.  All proceeds will benefit the North Texas affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

This year’s event will be a golf tournament, raffle, silent auction and wine pull, followed by a lunch with various area restaurants conducting tastings of their best food.

As an added special event, there will be a shoot-out for the cure following the golf tournament where a select group of golfers will be eligible to participate in a hole-in-one shoot-out to win $1 million, with another $1 million donated to the Komen Foundation.

“Most people don’t realize this, but most of the money raised by our campaign pays for breast cancer diagnostics and treatments for uninsured North Texas women,” said Kirsten Kuykendoll, chair of the Rally for the Cure Golf Tournament.  “Our sponsors, players, volunteers and golf club staff are all making a huge difference in the local breast cancer movement,” said Kuykendoll.
