Flower Mound residents are invited to meet members of the newly implemented police bicycle patrol at the official Bicycle Patrol Dedication Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Market Street, 3800 Long Prairie Rd.
In addition to meeting residents, the dedication ceremony will give the Flower Mound Police Department the opportunity to publicly thank three community partners who made the program possible through the generous donation of bicycles and necessary equipment: Market Street, Scottish Rite of Fort Worth and the Flower Mound Police Department Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.
Their support helped the Bike Patrol Program begin earlier than originally planned, and be included as part of the FMPD’s Summer Safety Initiatives, according to a press release from the town.
“We’re so grateful for our community partners who have stepped up and made a positive difference in our community,” said Chief of Police Andy Kancel. “This is a great opportunity to celebrate the official launch of our bicycle patrol program and is a prime example of how the Flower Mound community works together.”
Police bicycle patrols will help foster positive community interactions, address criminal activity in areas inaccessible to a police vehicle, and promote bicycle safety, according to Flower Mound officials.
