Reconstruction of the railroad crossing on Copper Canyon Road will begin the week of July 14. The project will close the crossing and a section of Copper Canyon Road for about four weeks.
Traffic will be detoured to Old Alton Road and Hilltop Road. Detour signs will be posted to guide motorists around the workzone.
Homeowners on Copper Canyon Road between Old Alton and the railroad tracks will have access to their properties at all times.
“By reconstructing this railroad crossing the intersection will be safer and provide for a “quiet crossing” reducing the necessity for the train to blow their horn as they travel through the intersection,” according to Denton County Commissioner Andy Eads.
The roadwork is the last phase of a two-and-a-half year reconstruction project for Copper Canyon Road between FM 407 and Hickory Hill.
Copper Canyon Road is expected to be reopened to traffic by August 15.
