Lewisville ISD athletic director Randy Mayes announced Tuesday he will be retiring from Lewisville ISD, effective Aug. 31.
Mayes has been in his current role since July 2008. Previously, he was LISD’s Physical Education Director and served as head football coach of Marcus High School (MHS) from 2001-06. He graduated from Lewisville High School (LHS) in 1973.
“There is not a better school district in the state of Texas,” Mayes said. “It’s certainly rare for a person to serve as the athletic director in the same town and school district of where you grew up. It’s been an honor to serve this community and work with outstanding coaches and students.
“I’d like to give my appreciation to Dr. Kevin Rogers for giving me a chance in this school district. “I’d also like to thank Dr. Stephen F. Waddell and Dr. Jerry Roy (former LISD Superintendent) for their support.”
Mayes was hired in 2001 by Rogers, who has served as his supervisor ever since then.
“I have always seen Coach Mayes’ hard work and dedication toward students,” Rogers said. “He is an athletic director who is continuously focused on strengthening all of our district’s athletic programs. He genuinely cares about student athletes, coaches and programs. We wish him the best in his retirement.”
Prior to arriving at MHS, Mayes spent more than 20 years coaching high school football at Odessa Permian and Ennis.
Mayes’ wife, Cynthia, is an eighth-grade math teacher at Lamar Middle School. They have three children, Katie, Kylie and Kendall. Two are MHS graduates, while the youngest will walk the stage in 2017. Their oldest daughter, Katie, is an Advanced Placement teacher at MHS.
“LISD is a great district,” Mayes said. “It has definitely been a great experience for the Mayes family.”
