Foodie Friday: Noodle Swing Thai Cafe

Today I continued my quest to bring attention to some of the locally owned and operated restaurants in the Flower Mound/Highland Village area by having lunch at the Noodle Swing Thai Cafe near the Kroger off FM 1171.

You all know that I love my Asian food, but I had surprisingly never really experienced Thai food before. I had several people tell me I needed to head to Noodle Swing to try it out – and if I had to experience Thai food anywhere for the first time, I’m glad I chose to listen to you guys and head here.

Our waiter, Dalton, was immensely helpful as Kari and I tried to figure out what to order off the menu. Dalton has worked at Noodle Swing Cafe for four years and knew the menu intimately. He was able to recommend some of his favorites and a few of their most popular dishes for us to try out.

There were so many delicious-sounding choices on the appetizer menu between the lettuce wraps, edamame and crab wontons, but ultimately we decided on the Swing Dumplings. I think we made the right decision! Their dumplings are made with ground pork, shrimp and herbs wrapped in a wonton wrapper and are served with a chili soy sauce on the side. I could have probably eaten two or three plates of those. (But I stayed on diet.)

We ordered off the Lunch Menu which was a great deal because we got our main entree, a spring roll and our choice of soup or salad. With our two entrees, we decided to get a salad with their house-made peanut dressing and the soup of the day which was Chicken Tom Yum soup. The peanut dressing was amazing and added an awesome level of salt to the fresh salad. And the soup was a great, simple chicken broth soup – the perfect start to our meal.

As far as entrees go – we went traditional Thai for our first option and got the chicken Pad Thai and then went with another of their more popular dishes, the Spicy Sweet Basil. This was a chicken dish served with spicy chili garlic sauce and a volcano of rice on the side. Definitely a beautiful plate to look at.

And here’s an insider tip for you – Dalton informed us that when the menu says “spicy” it really only means that the dish is prepared using spices, but everything on the menu is served mild. So, if you like some heat to your Thai food, keep in mind you’ll have to request that they add some extra spice to your dish.

I loved my first real experience with Thai food! And by the end of the meal, I was helping everyone else in the restaurant with what they should order. If you’re looking for a great spot for Thai food in the area, I definitely recommend you give Noodle Swing Thai Cafe a try. The staff were so helpful and nice, the plates were beautiful and the food was delicious. I was fully satisfied by the end of our meal without being overly full. I’ll definitely be going back to try out some more options!

And now that you all know that I actually do listen to your input on which places I should try, feel free to recommend our spot for next week’s post! You just might see your favorite local restaurant featured on my Foodie Friday blog!
