Lewisville ISD’s Board of Trustees announced that Will Skelton will be the principal of Flower Mound High School 9th Grade Campus, which will open this August.
Skelton is a six-year administrator of LISD who has extensive secondary education experience.
“Having both middle and high school viewpoints has given me valuable perspective when making decisions,” Skelton said. “I have worked with students, parents and teachers in preparation for high school and I’ve seen the finished product walk across the stage at graduation.”
Skelton served as assistant principal at Downing Middle School from 2008-2011, before becoming an assistant principal at Lewisville High School in 2011, where he helped transition to a 9th/10th grade campus model.
Prior to becoming an administrator, he served as head band director at Lakeview Middle School (2005-2008) and assistant band director at McKamy Middle School (2001-2002). He also helped open Downing as an assistant band director (2002-2005).
“Seven of my thirteen years in LISD have been spent in the west zone, so this move feels like coming home. I want to start building strong, trusting relationships with our teachers, parents and students as soon as possible,” Skelton said. “My plan is to build on FMHS’ tradition of academic and extracurricular excellence and begin to develop our own identity as FMHS 9th.”
Skelton brings a wealth of experience working in academics, fine arts, career and technology education and athletic and performance events, which he has been instrumental in leading since he became an administrator. When Skelton officially takes on the role of FMHS 9th principal March 17, he will bring this knowledge as well as his experience opening a new campus as a teacher and transitioning to a new high school campus model.
“Will is a innovative leader who I’m sure will guide FMHS 9th with innovation and initiative,” LISD Superintendent Dr. Stephen F. Waddell said. “I’ve seen him as a confident administrator who also gets down in the trenches working with staff and students. I know the FMHS 9th community will flourish under his guidance.”
