Flower Mound brush fire burns 15 acres

A brush fire Saturday near Lake Grapevine in Flower Mound consumed about 15 acres along the bike trails on Corps of Engineers property near Northshore Boulevard.

Flower Mound Fire Chief Eric Metzger said a mountain bike race was being held at the time and emergency access was difficult due to parked vehicles along the road, some of which were in the path of the advancing fire.

“One of our engines and a medic were very close by treating an injured rider when the fire broke out.  They were able to prevent damage to the vehicles with quick action,” said Metzger.

The Flower Mound Fire Department was assisted by units from Lewisville, Highland Village, Double Oak, Grapevine and Coppell.

The cause of the fire was not determined as of Saturday evening but Metzger said that low humidity levels, warmer temperatures and dry brush are making conditions very favorable for wildfires.

“We want to remind people to take precautions when using motorized equipment and activities which can cause an outdoor fire.”
