New app puts library in your hand

Want to search for and check out a book at the library from the comfort of your couch? There’s an app for that.

To increase accessibility, the Town of Flower Mound recently unveiled a new mobile app for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices.

The app, titled “Flower Mound Public Library”, allows user to search the library catalog, reserve materials, renew items, download e-books and e-audiobooks, view upcoming library events, and contact the library. In addition, it also provides directions to the library, links to the library’s social media accounts, and allows users to scan book barcodes from anywhere to discover if the library owns them.

A “Recommendations” link provides quick access to materials frequently requested, including various book award lists, books made into movies, and book suggestions users may enjoy based on popular titles.

“We’re very excited to be able to provide this new service,” said Flower Mound Director of Library Services Sue Ridnour. “Flower Mound is a mobile community, and we know parents, students, teachers, business people, and other busy library patrons will really appreciate the convenience of being able to conduct their library business anytime and anywhere that is convenient to them.”

The Flower Mound Public Library app was developed in conjunction with Boopsie for Libraries, a primary developer of mobile apps for libraries, and was funded through a grant provided by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Through an inter-local agreement, all Denton County residents are able to utilize the Flower Mound Public Library.

To download the app, users are encouraged to visit the app store for their device and search “Flower Mound Public Library.” The app is free and available to anyone, although certain features are restricted to Flower Mound Public Library card holders.
