Denton ISD schools will be shuttered for a fourth day today after school officials drove the roads in the district Tuesday night and determined they were still too icy for buses to safely navigate.
“Denton ISD desperately wanted to reopen schools on Wednesday. However, after checking roads and seeing residential streets are refreezing to black ice and security cameras showed chunks of ice falling at the front doors of several schools, the district decided to close schools to insure the safety of all our students and staff,” stated a notice on the front page of the Denton ISD website.
The scheduled makeup days will be Friday, April 18, and Friday, May 23. The district will seek waivers from the Texas Education Agency for the additional two inclement weather days, school officials said.
