Warriors hold on for playoff victory

The Liberty Christian football team won an impressive victory in the second round of the playoffs on Saturday evening, defeating Austin St. Michaels 48-36 at the Waco ISD Complex.

After trailing 7-0, Colby Moore tied up the game on a 1-yard run in the first quarter, and tied it up again at 14 late in the quarter on a 27-yard run from JonAaron Howell before the start of the second.

Matt Marrs, Howell and Moore each scored in the second quarter for the Warriors.

Moore scored his third touchdown run of the night on an 11 yard carry.

Howell scored again late in the fourth, to make it a 20 point lead for Liberty.

St. Michaels kept fighting to the end, scoring with 51 seconds remaining in the game, but Liberty was able to hold them off and get the victory.

Liberty (9-3) takes on the Nolan Catholic Vikings (8-4) in the TAPPS Class 5A state semifinals Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Keller Athletic Complex, 500 Pate-Orr Road North.
