State Representative Tan Parker (Flower Mound) reminded Denton County voters that Texas has scheduled a constitutional amendment election for November 5th. All registered voters are eligible to vote in the election, which begins with early voting going on now through November 1st.
In accordance with state law that took effect in June, all voters voting in person who have not been granted a disability exemption will also have to show photo identification to cast their vote.
“Election integrity was a key accomplishment of the 2011 Legislative Session and I am pleased that the reforms that we enacted will now take effect,” Parker said. “By showing their photo ID, voters can now rest assured that their identity is not being compromised through voter fraud or that their vote is not being cancelled out by illegitimately cast ballots.”
The approved forms of photo identification a person can display in order to vote include a Texas drivers license, Texas personal identification card, Texas concealed handgun license, US passport, US military identification, or a US citizenship certificate.
If a person does not possess any of these forms of photo identification, they can visit their local DPS office to apply for a free election identification card.
Individuals who are voting by mail or who have been given an exemption due to a disability are not required to show photo identification to vote. For more information on Texas’ new photo id requirement, visit www.txdps.state.tx.us/driverlicense/electionid.htm
Texas voters are routinely called to cast their ballot in a constitutional amendment election as an important part of the legislative process. This election features nine propositions ranging from abolishing a dormant state board to allowing local governments to offer competitive tax incentives to the aerospace industry.
