FMHS one-act play is state bound

The Flower Mound High School Dramatic Paws are one of eight 5-A theatrical companies to advance to the May 22 state finals in the 2013 University Interscholastic League (UIL) One Act Play competition.

The FMHS production of scenes from “These Shining Lives” was one of two shows from Wednesday’s Region 1 competition in Lubbock to move forward.

Three FMHS students earned individual awards for their work at the Region level: Brooklyn Smith and Morgan Haney were named to the All-Star Cast and Austin Roa was an Honorable Mention All-Star Cast selection.

Flower Mound High School will be making its first trip to the UIL One Act Play state finals since 2008. FMHS Dramatic Paws were second runner-up in 2005 with “Into the Woods.”

The state UIL 5-A One Act performances will be May 22 at Bass Concert Hall on the UT Austin campus. Tickets are $10 for students and $12 for adults.

Information about the One Act Play state contest, directions and UT Austin parking is available at www.uiltexas.org/theatre/state.
