School doesn't miss a beat

The Forestwood Middle School PTA in Flower Mound sponsored an event to educate parents and students on what they should know about unexpected and sudden cardiac arrest in children.

Cook Children’s Medical Center, along with Project ADAM (Automated Defibrillators in Adam’s Memory) Texas provided the necessary information.

Laura Friend, Project ADAM Texas program coordinator, along with LISD nurses and teachers, educated and assisted the parents and students by providing them with hands on demonstrations of CPR and how to activate the AED (automated external defibrillator)  equipment located in the schools.

Friend lost her 13-year-old daughter due to cardiac arrest, which could have been prevented if those present had been educated on the proper use of an AED.

Flavio Longoria, a Huffines Middle School student whose life was saved by the use of an AED by school staff in October 2011, was also on hand for the event.
