It is exciting to witness all the construction happening in Flower Mound as numerous projects progress and take shape.
Of course, part of the progress in Flower Mound includes necessary road construction and there is good news in that area. Flower Mound’s portion of the FM 407 project, from Briarhill to just west of Chinn Chapel, is still on track to be completed in July. Traffic has been switched to the finished westbound lanes and work is underway on the eastbound lanes.
Crews are also hard at work at the future Highlands Plaza development, located at the southeast corner of Chinn Chapel and FM 407, which will be home to the new Academy Sports and Outdoors. There is also a lot of activity at the northeast corner of Long Prairie and Cross Timbers Roads, in preparation for the new Market Street grocery store. Both projects are anticipated to be completed in November.
Down in our Lakeside Business District, construction crews have poured concrete for Oakmont Industrial Group’s two new buildings, as part of the Lakeside Commerce Center Phase III project. The two new buildings will bring 755,628 square-feet of additional space and the Town and Oakmont are pursuing potential tenants. With a 96 percent occupancy rate in the Lakeside Business District, this area continues to contribute invaluable tax dollars to our community and we look forward to the two additional buildings opening their doors and welcoming new tenants.
There will also be dirt flying soon in Lakeside DFW. Realty Capital Management officials recently announced their first land sale to a local land development company, which will begin work on the project’s first phase of single-family homes. In fact, homebuilders American Legend Homes and Darling Homes have already signed-on to the development. This will be the first of three communities Realty Capital Management representatives anticipate starting this year within the Lakeside DFW development.
In January, the Council passed an agreement to create an enhanced partnership with the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce. The partnership will bring three new opportunities for our business community.
The first is our 12 at 12 monthly luncheons. Our Mayor and Council Members will meet on a monthly basis with 12 Chamber members at noon to talk about the business community and Flower Mound in general.
The second is the Chick-Fil-A Leadercast simulcast. Held in May, the corporation’s leadership seminar includes world renowned speakers such former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Mike Krzyzewski, better known as “Coach K”, the head men’s basketball coach for Duke University and Team USA. This simulcast will bring valued leadership training to our business community right here in Flower Mound.
The third is a monthly Economic Development Forum where brokers, developers, chamber representatives, and Town Economic Development staff meet for breakfast and listen to a featured guest speaker. The first one will be held on February 27 and will feature our new Town Manager Jimmy Stathatos.
Jimmy started with the Town in mid-January and has already hit the ground running. He is currently working through a Tour and Talk program, focusing on familiarizing himself with Town facilities and staff to learn more about the organization. He is a great leader and we have enjoyed working with him over these past few weeks and look forward to the future with Jimmy as our Town Manager. You can reach him by email at email@example.com.
