Argyle Adventure Boot Camp: New Owner and New Time

Post Ad – Top

Celebrating six years and 1,200 workouts as an award winning fitness program, Argyle Adventure Boot camp has formed a reputation as the place where people of all ages, all sizes and all abilities go for a body and lifestyle transformation.  You probably have seen dozens of the transformations featured here in The Cross Timbers Gazette!

Founded by Dr. John Spencer Ellis in 1998, the original Adventure Boot Camp (ABC) began in Orange County, California.  Coach Kelli Calabrese, after moving from the northeast to Flower Mound and selling her chain of health clubs, decided she missed being in the trenches with clients each morning.  She didn’t want to open a traditional health club, but instead wanted to take advantage of being outdoors year round.  She began the very first camp on January 7th, 2007 with just 17 campers.  By summer it had grown to over 70 participants and ultimately over 1,000 people have come through the program!

In the past six years, Coach Kelli has led the 5:30 a.m. workouts five days a week at the Cross Timbers Church/Liberty Christian School location to an incredible group of men and women.

“The amazing people who show up each morning make it exciting to get out of bed,” said Calabrese.  “I have personally grown as a result of coaching them and many have become my dearest friends.”

A while back, Norma Zitterkopf of Argyle applied to become a coach.  After several conversations and some soul searching, Kelli and Norma came to an agreement for her to purchase the Argyle camp.

“When I heard Norma’s heart for wanting to lead a camp and the fact that she could give it 100% of her expertise, attention and passion, I knew it was a right fit,” said Calabrese.  “One of the best things I can do is to turn what I have built over to someone who can do even greater things with it. I am completely confident Norma can.”

Norma has complete confidence and is over the top excited to have her own fitness business.  It’s been a dream that has been a long time coming.  Norma has always been lovingly referred to as a health nut. One look at her and you can see she exudes fitness and great nutrition.  She has been coaching youth sports conditioning as well as her now grown boys since they started playing sports at age 4, teaching water aerobics for seniors and has worked with some top trainers.

Norma is certified by the Cooper Institute and the National Exercise Sports Trainers Association.  She is also a consultant with Isagenix, the world leader in clinical nutrition and voraciously continues her education.

For the past 20 years, Norma has been the administrator for her husband Kelly’s company, Hallmark Construction General Contractors, which specializes in home renovations and custom building.  She will rely on that experience to run an efficient and fun boot camp.

“Everything I have experienced thus far is coming together at the exact right timing and I am looking forward to making an even greater impact on the fitness of the Denton County community,” said Zitterkopf.

“The first thing I am doing is adding an 8:30 a.m. camp to accommodate all of the people who are dropping off kids – or simply don’t prefer 5:30 a.m.  I will be adding some more equipment based workouts and especially would love to recruit more teachers, hometown heroes, moms, CEO’s, college students and more.  Boot camp is for everyone!”

The 2013 schedule is already posted and annual memberships are available.  Imagine what a year of boot camp can do for your body.  Camp is a comprehensive program that includes a nutrition seminar, before and after fitness assessments, challenging workouts, daily supportive e-mails, food log feedback and more.
