Lady Eagles take title at Whataburger tournament

The Argyle girls basketball team won the Whataburger Basketball Tournament yesterday, defeating defending state champion Abilene Wylie 43-37 in the tournament championship game.

Argyle trailed 21-18 after first half, but took a 32-29 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Coach Skip Townsend said he had great efforts from a number of players, and said Argyle had just “one field goal in the final period, but was 9 for 13 from the line, and 14 for 19 for the game.”

Townsend had very good defenses performances from Kim Strelke, Bailey Eschle, and Delaney Sain in the Wylie game.

Strelke and Harris were named to the All-Tournament team, and Sain was chosen MVP of the tournament.

The Argyle girls will play Crandall on Jan. 4 and open district on Jan. 8 at home against Carrollton Ranchview.
