Guyer knocks off Saginaw in first round

The Guyer Wildcats football team will advance to the area round of the playoffs following a 42-14 victory over Saginaw on Friday night at Northwest ISD Stadium in Justin.

Guyer led 14-0 early in the second quarter of the game on the strength of runs from Jarrod Heard and Nate Maki, and took a 21-7 lead into the half after Ellis Jefferson caught a 12-yard pass from Heard with 27 seconds remaining.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 21 in the third quarter on a 13-yard run from Richard Whitaker, and made it 35-7 early in the third on a three-yard keeper from Heard.

DJ Breedlove would finish out the scoring for Guyer, as the Wildcats advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Breedlove rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown in the game.

Guyer will face Aledo in the area round at 2 p.m. next Friday at Northwest ISD Stadium in Justin.
