Eagle Scout Gives Gift of Reading to Hospitalized Children
Eagle Scout Liam McNichols of Troop 262 of Flower Mound organized and lead a book drive that collected over 3,000 books to benefit the children at the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital of Dallas.

The library provides free books for patients and families during their hospital visit, and the children and families can keep the books if they wish.

In 2011, Scottish Rite performed 1,700 inpatient and 453 outpatient surgeries at no cost to the families.  The hospital also has more than 40,000 clinic visits each year.

McNichols attends Marcus High School as a Junior.

Lantana Cub Scouts Have Busy Summer

The members of Cub Scout Pack 802 in Lantana have been out and about this summer.

The boys enjoyed a beautiful day hiking Old Alton Bridge. The pack also participated in the July 4th Parade in Double Oak.

On June 4-8, fifteen scouts from Pack 802 participated in the Frontier Trails District Cub Scouts Denton Day Camp at Hills & Hollows.

Highlights of the experience included earning the BB Beltloop & Pin, Archery Beltloop & Pin, Geology Beltloop & Pin, Weather Beltloop, and Wildlife Conservation Beltloop.  The boys learned rope making and knot tying and creating a custom-carved rubber stamp, a leather stamp dinosaur, “ancient” bow and arrows, a water gun, a catapult, a blow dart, and a hiking staff.

Six adult chaperones from the Pack helped make the event successful: Howard & Mary Lee, Erin Poppenger, Mike & Colette Rieder and Sheila Ward.
