Marcus senior aims to help animals

How a high school student is able to serve as president of her debate team, maintain a 3.8 grade point average and hold down two jobs is beyond most of us, but for Marcus senior Taylor Dewitt, it is just part of her weekly routine.

Dewitt is ranked in the top 10 percent of her graduating class this school year and has already decided on where she is going to college and what she would like to do for a living one day.

“I’m going to Purdue University,” Dewitt said. “They have a really great veterinary program, and that was my main draw. It is a really a great passion of mine.”

Dewitt is also an officer in the Marcus English Honor Society and a straight A student.

Dewitt said the secret to her being successful at so many things in school and out is that she stays on top of things, but said there is something she enjoys the most of all.

“Whenever I set my mind to do something, I just can’t not do it,” Dewitt said. “I would say that I really like my work at the animal hospital the most, though. That is my favorite thing.”

Dewitt said that she has felt very privileged to attend Marcus High School and for a couple of different reasons.

“There are so many opportunities,” Dewitt said. “The faculty is really supportive in letting you do extra curricular activities. They are willing to work with you in whatever you are wanting to do.”

The Marcus senior said there is something that stands out above the rest in terms of her time at MHS.

“I will probably remember my time on the debate team,” Dewitt said. “That was where my real family was at school.”

Dewitt recently won the UIL regional tournament in debate and is headed to the state competition.

Dewitt is an OrthoTexas Outstanding Student of the Month for May 2012.
