Scout project encourages recycling

A Double Oak youth just made it easier for his town to go green.

Alex Rodriguez, with the help from his fellow scouts from Troop 265 in Flower Mound, set up a public recycling center Saturday at Double Oak Town Hall.

His Eagle Scout project consisted of constructing a recycling corral to hold three recycling bins and a communications campaign to notify Double Oak families about the new recycling center.

“Lewisville Landfill will be full in 10 years, so as a community we need to make a strong effort to recycle and produce less trash,” said Rodriguez.

Residents can bring recyclable materials such as newspaper, cardboard, unbroken glass, aluminum and plastic items to be recycled for free. Visit www.wm.com/customer-service/residential-recycling-faq.jsp for more information on what materials are recyclable.

Troop 265 is in its 43rd year of operation and is chartered by Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Flower Mound. The troop currently has 60 registered scouts and has produced over 90 Eagle scouts.
