FMHS wrestlers advance to state

Flower Mound High School recently captured their second Region II wrestling championship in as many years.

The Jaguars qualified eight wrestlers for the Region II Championships at Arlington Martin High School and six of those wrestlers qualified for the UIL State Championships in Austin on Feb. 24 and 25.

Flower Mound led from the first round and never looked back as they had five wrestlers make it through to the championship round.

The final team score had Flower Mound with 157 points, far outdistancing runner up Colleyville Heritage with 90 points.

Individual results were; 106 pounds, Jordan Speckels, 1st; 120 pounds, Dylan Akers, 1st; 132 pounds, Scott Akers, 1st; 160 pounds, Drake Dudley, 1st.

At 145 pounds, Brady Speckels was 2nd, and 195 pounds, Tyler Scalzi was 4th.

Also wrestling for Flower Mound were Weston Cronan at 113 lbs and Kaydon Kirby at 285 lbs.

Flower Mound heads to the UIL State Tournament as returning state runner up.

In addition, Coach Steve Davis was honored with his second consecutive Coach of the Year award.
