Molly Mooney passed away Feb. 13, 2012 at home, in Fredericksburg, Texas surrounded by her loving family.
Molly Burgess Mooney was born July 13, 1948 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Henry and Mary H. Burgess. She moved to Wyoming as an infant and grew up on a ranch east of Sheridan. After graduating from Sheridan High School in 1966, MolIy received a BA from George Washington University in Washington, DC in 1970. She went to work in merchandizing for Rob Roy Company, Inc. in New York City. Following this, she attended graduate school at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY, earning a Masters in Land Use planning and Landscape Architecture in 1980. Subsequently, she worked in planning, Historic Preservation and Design in New York State and Wyoming.
In 1980, on a trip home to Wyoming, Molly met and married Fred Mooney The couple lived in Bighorn, Wyoming for six years during which time they had two sons. The Mooneys moved to Double Oak, Texas where they remained for 26 years before retiring to Fredericksburg, in the Hill Country of Texas. In 2011 Molly and Fred celebrated the arrival of their first grandchild, a grandson.
Molly was an active member of the Flower Mound, Texas United Methodist church and always participated in volunteer work for the communities where she lived. She continued her interest in historic preservation through nomination of buildings and districts as Historic Landmarks in Big Horn, Buffalo, Cody and Sheridan, Wyoming. While in Double Oak, she was involved with the PTA, a member of the Double Oak Women’s club and Book club, helped with activities to support the local fire department and was President of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) Chapter GS. While in Fredericksburg, Texas, Molly was a member of Die Kunstler and the Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country
Besides her interests in these organizations, Molly enjoyed a very active lifestyle: tennis, walking, hiking and yoga. She loved to read, cook, paint and travel. Married to a pilot, Molly often accompanied her husband, sometimes with their children, on his working trips overseas. She and Fred spent many hours together, flying in a small plane, taking pleasure in seeing places off the beaten path. She returned to Wyoming each summer with her husband and sons to visit with family, friends and the mountains. Above all, she was devoted to raising her two boys. Their loving and compassionate ways as adults are a testament to her motherhood.
Molly was a smart, fun, and beautiful lady, who made those around her feel uplifted and special. She had a multitude of friends who adored her and the time she spent with them was cherished. Her family was blessed by her goodness and for the rest of their lives will carry on her legacy of caring about others.
Molly was preceded in death by her father Henry A. Burgess and sister, Sarah of Sheridan, Wyoming. She is survived by husband, Fred Mooney of Fredericksburg Texas, two sons, Matthew Mooney of Houston, Texas; Hayden Mooney and wife, Emily and grandson Hank, of Double Oak, Texas; mother, Mary H. Burgess of Sheridan, Wyoming; two sisters, Tyler Burgess of Eugene, Oregon and Heather Plank of Sheridan, Wyoming; two brothers, Sheridan Burgess and wife, Lindy of Wyarno, Wyoming and Jamie Burgess and wife Rita of Cora, Wyoming, her sister-in-law Geri White and husband, Phil of Kerrville, Texas. She also had many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as devoted friends who will miss her dearly.
Memorial services will be at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 601 West Creek St. Fredericksburg Texas on Feb. 18 at 1 P.M.
