Flower Mound High School’s performing arts departments combine to present ‘Crazy for You’, the Tony Award winning production blending the music of Ira and George Gershwin with laughter, dancing, sentiment and showmanship in the tradition of American musical theater.
Set in the 1930s, Crazy for You is the story of Bobby Child (Tanner Brodess), the son of a wealthy New York banking family, whose dream in life is to dance on Broadway.
Despite protests from his mother (Callie Hooper) and fiance’ Irene Roth (Allyson Phillips), Bobby flees to Deadrock, Nevada, where he meets Polly Baker (Emily Emmett) and ultimately falls in love while hatching a plan to save the local theater. Mistaken identity, plot twists, fabulous dance numbers and memorable Gershwin tunes including I Can’t Be Bothered Now, I Got Rhythm, They Can’t Take That Away from Me and Embraceable You are woven into the high-energy musical comedy.
Crazy for You ran four years on Broadway and has become a fixture in musical comedy since its February 1992 debut. The original cast included Harry Groener and Jodi Benson as Bobby and Polly. The production was the 1992 winner of the Tony, Olivier and Helen Hayes Awards for Best Musical of the Year.
The Flower Mound High School all-school production of Crazy for You includes over 125 students from theater arts, orchestra, band and choral organizations as members of the cast, orchestra and staging crews.
FMHS International Thespian Society Troupe 6154 will conduct a silent auction during each performance of Crazy for You. Funds raised will assist troupe members in attending the annual Texas State Thespian and the International Thespian Society Festivals. In December, 22 FMHS students advanced in eight individual and group events from the Texas state competition to ITS national competition June 25-30 in Lincoln, Neb.
Four performances of Crazy for You are scheduled Jan. 21 (Saturday) at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.; Jan. 22 (Sunday) at 3:00 p.m.; and Jan. 23 (Monday) at 7:00 p.m. All performances will be staged at the FMHS Jack and Donna Clark Auditorium, 3411 Peters Colony Road, Flower Mound.
Reserved seat tickets for Crazy for You are $15.00, $12.00 and $8.00. General admission tickets are also available for $8.00.
Public advance ticket sales are scheduled Jan. 9 and 11 at the FMHS Main Office Atrium 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.-2:15 p.m.; Jan. 14 from 9:00 a.m.-noon at the FMHS Auditorium lobby; and Jan. 17-20 at the FMHS Office Atrium 8:00-9:00 a.m. and 12:00-2:30 p.m. Remaining tickets will be available one hour prior to each performance in the FMHS auditorium lobby. Sales are by check or cash only, and patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance due to the high possibility of sellout for this FMHS presentation.
