New playground to be built by community

How about a good old fashioned playground-raising?

The Flower Mound Parks staff has an opportunity for residents who want to get involved in their community and leave a lasting contribution for future generations.

The town is currently seeking volunteers to help with the design and construction of a community built playground in new Heritage Park, located at the corner of Garden Ridge Boulevard and Spinks Road.

The concept, design, and construction process for the playground will be volunteer-driven and assistance will be needed in a variety of areas including the steering committee, fundraising, design, artistic input, food service, and construction.

A playground design firm will meet with students from each of Flower Mound’s 11 elementary schools and solicit input in January. Based upon their feedback, a draft design will be unveiled at a subsequent public meeting to receive additional feedback from the community.

Once a design has been finalized, community volunteers will construct the playground in one week next summer, similar to an old-fashioned barn raising in which everybody helps out and the job gets done fast.
