Traffic stop nets rape suspect

An Athens, Texas man charged with sexually assaulting a child was arrested in Double Oak after being stopped by police for driving his motorcycle around construction barricades.

Double Oak Police Lieutenant Ruben Rivas observed Shane Alan Runion, 29, commit the traffic violation in the 100 block of Simmons Road on the afternoon of October 11.

Lieutenant Rivas stopped Runion, who initially denied having identification and proceeded to give a false name to the officer.  While Lt. Rivas was attempting to determine Runion’s identity, Runion took off running towards Carruth Estates.

Double Oak officers, with the assistance of the Denton County Sheriff’s Department, found Runion hiding in a bush in the 300 block of E. Carruth Ln., where he surrendered without further incident.

Police later leaned that Runion was wanted for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child in Henderson County, Texas.

Runion was charged with evading arrest and booked into the Denton County jail.
