Shopping center receipts benefit local schools

To kick off the new school year, The Shops at Highland Village is launching its inaugural school rewards program.

Customers making a purchase at the shopping center between August 19 and October 16 can attribute their receipts to one of 10 local public elementary schools.

At the end of the eight-week period, participating schools will receive a monetary donation of up to $3,000 based upon their final point standings.

Equivalent points are awarded for receipt totals, plus additional points can be earned for Facebook postings, center email database registrations and periodic point opportunities such as book donations to benefit Communities in Schools during the kick-off weekend of August 19-21.

Receipts will be collected and tallied each week with rankings posted on the “It’s Elementary” website at www.ItsElementaryHV.org and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TheShopsAtHighlandVillage.

At the end of the rewards program, schools will receive a donation based upon average points per student.  The school that accumulates the most points per student will receive a monetary donation of $3,000.  Second place will earn $2,000, and the third through fifth place winners will each receive $1,000 with the remaining five schools guaranteed a $500 donation.

“It’s easy to participate. You simply shop, write the name of a participating school on the back of a duplicate receipt and drop it in an entry box inside the store,” said Kelly Smith, Consumer Marketing Manager for The Shops at Highland Village.

“We encourage all shoppers, even those without school-age children at home, to assign their receipts to the participating school of their choice. It is a great way to help our local schools without any added expense to you.”

Participating schools include Blanton Elementary, Flower Mound Elementary, Heritage Elementary, Highland Village Elementary, Liberty Elementary, McAuliffe Elementary, Prairie Trail Elementary, Valley Ridge Elementary, Vickery Elementary and Wellington Elementary.

The Shops at Highland Village is a 352,000 square-foot shopping center located at the corner of FM 2499 and FM 407 in Highland Village.
