Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D., will be the keynote speaker at two GOP events in Denton next week.
Burgess will be addressing the Denton Republican Women’s Club lunch meeting on Wednesday, August 17, at El Guapo’s Restaurant, 419 S Elm, south of the Square in Denton.
The buffet line will open at 11:30 a.m. and the meeting will begin promptly at noon, according to DRWC’s President Lee Ann Breading. Any interested Republicans are welcome to attend.
On Thursday, August 18, Congressman Burgess will speak at the monthly meeting of the Denton County Republican Party. His presentation will include a legislative update on current events in Washington D.C.
The DCRP meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. in the 2nd floor Community Room of Medical Center of Lewisville, located at the southeast corner of I-35E and Main Street in Lewisville.
Immediately prior to the meeting at 6:00 p.m., there will be a social hour for meeting attendees hosted by Denton County Constable Mike Truitt. Both the social hour and the meeting are open to all interested Republicans.
First elected to Congress is 2002, Congressman Burgess represents the 26th district of Texas on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee which is responsible for health care, consumer protection, and energy laws. He is Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Health and the top Republican on the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee as well as the Energy and Power Subcommittee. He is a member of the bicameral Joint Economic Committee and serves as Chairman of the Congressional Health Care Caucus, which he founded in 2009.
Before heading to Congress, Burgess practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology in Lewisville. He delivered more than 3,000 babies during his nearly 30 years in private practice.
Dr. Burgess represents the majority of Denton County, Cooke County, and parts of suburban Dallas and Fort Worth. He has been married to his wife, Laura, for 35 years, and they have three children and a grandson.
