Eagle Scout project will help students overseas

As Denton County communities prepare for the end of the school year, Life Scout Stuart Weaver of Boy Scout Troop 99 in Lantana is preparing to hold a school supply kit drive to help the children of Iraq and Afghanistan begin their own school year.

Weaver  will collect school supplies to help the children of those struggling countries on two consecutive Saturdays: May 28 and June 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at OfficeMax in the Highlands Ranch shopping center, located at 6060 Long Prairie Road, Suite 300, in Flower Mound.

In conjunction with Operation International Children (OIC), the kits will be sent to U.S. troops abroad who will distribute them to children in need.

OIC has successfully delivered a quarter of a million school supply kits, all of which have been distributed to children by U.S. troops overseas.

The collection will also help Weaver complete his Eagle Scout Project, the last stage in achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
