Local business offers family fun to fight cancer

Area residents are encouraged to pack up the family and head to Kwik Kar Wash in Flower Mound on May 7th for a day of fun supporting a great cause.

The inaugural Kwik Kar Family Fun Festival, a day of live music, free food and fun activities to benefit North Texas cancer patients, will be held at Kwik Kar Wash at 2801 Flower Mound Road on Saturday, May 7, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  (Rain date: Saturday, May 14.)

The day-long festivities will include live music featuring Limelight by Emerald City, complimentary food will be cooked all day from Texas Roadhouse, a bounce house and other games for kids, a silent auction and raffle prizes.  You’ll also have the chance to send several local celebrities and other special guests “swimming” in a dunk tank throughout the day.

“We are serious about raising money to fight cancer, so we decided to bring the community together in a festive atmosphere to have a great time while benefiting an important cause,” said Eric Spiritas, co-owner with Bill Mitchell of Kwik Kar Lube & Auto Repair Center and Kwik Kar Wash & Detail Center (www.GoKwikKar.com).

“Bill and I will be venturing into the dunk tank, and we’ve challenged some local celebrities and several other VIPs around town, including our local officials, to join us.  It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Spiritas pledged that 100 percent of the proceeds from the event and silent auction items will be donated in honor of “Team Laurn” – named for a local cancer patient – to the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center in Dallas.   The new Baylor facility specializes in clinical trials, research and care.  Now that this center has officially opened, North Texas cancer patients no longer must travel outside the area for clinical trials or to receive the necessary treatment.

Kwik Kar has already made a substantial donation to the Baylor Center and is committed to raising even more through this event.  In addition, all tax-deductible donations to Swim Across America of $100 or more ($1,000 maximum) will receive a pre-paid gift card good for half the donated amount. The gift card may be used for car washes and detail services.

“Our goal is to raise $20,000 for Team Laurn and the Baylor Cancer Center at the event,” said Mitchell.  “With the help of our sponsors and the participation of the great people of Flower Mound, Highland Village and neighboring towns, we’ll exceed our goal while making it a day to remember.”

The event is also designed to have a multiplier effect by recruiting swimmers and volunteers for Swim Across America’s (SAA) first Texas event – Saturday, June 11, at Lake Ray Hubbard in Dallas.  SAA is a national non-profit organization that raises money for research to prevent and treat cancer through swimming events held across the United States.  All proceeds from the Dallas event will be donated to the Innovative Clinical Trials Center at the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center.  For more information about the Swim, visit www.SwimAcrossAmerica.org/dallas.

Generous co-sponsors of the May 7th event at Kwik Kar include Cloud 9 Salon and Spa, State Farm-Tony Jones, Texas Roadhouse and Chani Overstreet Personal Training.  Radio stations 100.3 Jack FM and 106.1 KISS FM will also be at the event.  Chick-Fil-A will serve free chicken biscuits from 8:00 to 10:00 AM at Kwik Kar.  Chili’s Grill & Bar will also provide chips, salsa and queso.  In addition, festival-goers will receive fliers promoting next-day visits to Chili’s, which will donate 15% of the guest’s bill to Swim Across America.
