Learning in the landscape

Ground was broken Friday on an outdoor learning center at Blanton Elementary School in Lantana.

“The facility will boast hands-on opportunities for students to learn life sciences, physical education, math, conservation and much more,” said Leslie Haralson, Blanton PTA President. “Uniquely, the facility will have a composter donated by Waste Management and grade level plant beds as well.”

Haralson said the center is being funded through the Blanton PTA, with proceeds from the fall festival, commemorative brick sales, and private and corporate donations, including a $500 grant awarded by the Keep Denton Beautiful Foundation.

On hand for the groundbreaking were Blanton principal Karen Satterwhite, Blanton PTA members, second grade students and representatives from Keep Denton Beautiful, Highland Homes and Aaron Goldstien from Gold Landscape.
