Update on superintendent search process

As the LISD Board of Trustees begins its search for the new Superintendent of Schools, I would like to share our goals as well as the process.

First, our Board wants this search to be open and transparent. We have created a section on the district website to keep our community informed of the entire process. As information is updated, the district’s Office of Public Information will send out an electronic notification informing our community of new information.

Second, the Board will seek community input throughout the entire district. We want to hear the attributes and qualifications you feel should be part of the search criteria. Throughout the process, community forums and opportunities for electronic feedback will be communicated to all LISD residents and staff through our e-newsletter, “Friday Flash.” Anyone can sign-up to receive “Friday Flash” by visiting www.lisd.net. Through this publication, forum notices and reminders will be sent directly to your e-mail account. Notices will also be published in our local papers.

Third, the Board will seek to find the best candidate to serve our school district. Our children and staff deserve the best and we will not rest until we have found a perfect match. We know our community expects a quality educational program and our focus is to find the right person who has the same values reflective of our community.

As you may know, our Board will utilize a search firm, which is similar to a corporate headhunter. Our Board unanimously agreed to hold a national search as LISD is one of the largest 100 school districts in the nation. The Board will carefully analyze the firms to find an organization with a solid record of successfully recruiting effective superintendents.

Below is the timeline for the search process:

– September 8 – Search firm proposals due
– September 13 – Top search firms make presentations to Board
– September 18 – Board action to select search firm

After the search firm has been selected, the process timeline will be expanded and shared with our community.

Our Board encourages you to participate in this process. If you have questions regarding the search process, please feel free to contact the Office of Public Information at 469-948-8152 or at [email protected].

Carol Kyer
President, LISD Board of Trustees
