Lantana Golf Club has new owner

Dallas-based Republic Property Group, developer of Lantana, announced the sale of the Lantana Golf Club Wednesday to an Austin-based entity called the Dominion Golf Group.

Republic initially opened the club in 2001 as a semi-private, daily fee course but took the club private in 2008.  The club currently has 450 golf club members and 50 social members, with a projected cap of 600 golf club members.

“We searched for a group that has experience owning and operating private country clubs in quality, master-planned communities and would be a great fit for Lantana.  We found them in The Dominion Golf Group,” said Mark Wagner, President of Republic Property Group.

“We believe The Dominion Golf Group can take the club to the next level by offering members new opportunities and growth.”

The Dominion Golf Group, founded in May 2006, owns and manages five private golf clubs in Central Texas. In addition to their purchase of Lantana Golf Club, properties include their flagship, The Dominion Country Club, in San Antonio, and the historic Onion Creek Club in Austin,  as well as River Place and Twin Creeks Country Clubs, also located in Austin.

“Republic Property Group is strongly committed to an ongoing relationship with The Dominion Golf Group, and in maintaining the continuity between the Lantana Golf Club and Lantana residents,” added Wagner.

Republic Property Group has been active in real estate development since 1967 and has developed over 13,000 acres of master planned communities.

The Dominion Golf Group is headed by industry professional and Managing Partner Steven Held, who also serves as President and CEO of the company.

“We are extremely pleased to have acquired Lantana, and are looking forward to continuing a strong relationship with Republic Property Group and the Lantana Community,” said Held.

He added, “Lantana is a beautiful property with a championship golf course and strong staff.  Our goal is to partner with the members, adding activities and amenities that will bring even greater value to the club.”

Held said that Dominion Golf Group members enjoy reciprocal privileges at their sister club properties.

Lantana Golf Club is the centerpiece of the 1,743-acre, master-planned community of Lantana. The 7,147 yard, par 72 championship golf course was designed by golf course architects Jay and Carter Morrish and features an island green on it’s  #15 signature hole.  The club hosted the first stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament for seven years.
