Williams Production has a total of four rigs running right now in North Texas’ Barnett Shale. Three are drilling in Denton County. The fourth is working in Wise County.
Here’s a snapshot summary:
– Felderhoff Rig No. 26 is working on the first well in the Cummings B unit in Flower Mound.
– Helmerich & Payne Rig No. 232 is working on the fifth well at the Rice Ranch in Bartonville.
– Helmerich & Payne Rig. No. 218 is working on the ninth well in the Wright unit in Argyle.
– Helmerich & Payne Rig. No. 288 is working on the fifth well at the Childers pad in Wise County.
On average, it takes about 16-25 days to drill a well, depending on the depth, location and the geologic conditions we encounter.
Locally, Williams’ average cost for drilling and completing one natural gas well is approximately $3 million.
Of note, Williams employs a closed-loop drilling system in the Barnett Shale. This process helps contain drilling water and mud within a steel enclosure during the entire drilling process instead of pumping and placing it into a temporary open pit.
