Extreme liberal activists…seriously?

The gas drilling debate being waged as part of the upcoming Flower Mound Town elections is nothing to laugh about, but I do have to chuckle a bit with the recent attempts to label supporters of the NFL (Northern, Filidoro, Lyda) candidates as extreme-liberal, sky-is-falling, crazies.

From the very beginning I, along with a number of friends and neighbors — who well over two years ago formed the Flower Mound Citizens Against Urban Drilling – -have fought this very same label.  Despite constant communications that we are “not against all gas drilling, but rather that which will adversely affect the public safety, the enjoyment of our homes, and our overall quality of life,”  we are regularly accused of being alarmists, tree huggers, and worst of all, anti-American.

Interestingly, our core members are comprised of life-long Republicans, with the exception of one individual, who is an active Tea Party member.  Not exactly a band of environmental wackos.

There is nothing liberal about wanting to make sure that your Town is not overtaken by developers who care nothing about the area and, if left unchecked, will ultimately transform suburban Flower Mound into an industrialized eyesore.

I honestly do not know the political party affiliations of the NFL candidates, and I don’t care.  What I do know is that Melissa Northern, Al Filidoro, and Steve Lyda are the best choices to lead us through the difficult times ahead.

Gas drilling, like it or not, is a part of all of our lives now.  Let’s just see that it’s done in a manner that protects the rights of all the citizens and that in 20 years, we’re still proud to call Flower Mound, Texas, “home.”

I encourage you to vote for the NFL on May 8, 2010.  Flower Mound residents in 2030 will thank you.
