Boys and Girls Club strives to reduce childhood diabetes

The Boys and Girls Club of Denton County announced its newest fitness program for middle school and high school students—a Bicycle Club.

In order to become a member of the Bicycle Club you will need a membership into the Club, a bicycle, and to be a kid in middle school or high school.

The Bicycle Club is part of the Boys & Girls Clubs Triple Play program.  Triple Play takes a three prong approach which focuses on mind, body, and soul.  Learning to make healthy eating choices, exercising and engaging in social recreation are all activities.

“This program has been implemented at the club to address the problem of America’s youth experiencing issues with being too sedentary and developing health issues which includes developing Type II diabetes at an alarming rate,” said Babs Troutman, President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Denton County.

The annual club membership fee is $10 per year and enables preteens and teens to come on Saturdays with no additional fees.  To be a member of the Bicycle Club, members do not have to participate in either the after school and/or summer camp program.  The club will however be offering days during summer camp for the Bicycle Club to meet and take excursions.

Teens and preteens interested in joining the Bike Club should visit the website at www.bgcdentoncounty.org for a membership application.  Once the application is completed, bring it by the club located at 303 Alamo Avenue, Lake Dallas, TX 75065 to start your journey to a more healthy lifestyle while having hours of fun with friends.
