Mr. David goes to Hollywood

On Monday, April 12, Denton’s own PointBank President, Ray David, will make his acting debut on “How I Met Your Mother”, a CBS sitcom airing locally at 7pm on KTVT Channel 11.

David won this “Featured Extra Package” by bidding at the annual Denton Benefit League Charity Ball last April.  David bid on a chance for he and his daughter to go to Hollywood and spend the day with the cast and crew of the sitcom.  While David is a bidding veteran, he expressed his enthusiasm for this win in particular. “I bid at a lot of charity auctions, but I was excited about this because my daughter has always wanted to go to Hollywood, and I wanted her to have this experience”.

The sitcom features Neil Patrick Harris (of ‘Doogie Howser, M.D’ fame), Alyson Hannigan (formerly of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’) and Jason Segel (recently appeared in ‘I Love You, Man’). It is directed by Pamela Fryman, who has directed Frasier and Just Shoot Me and is a two time Daytime Emmy winner.  David gave some insight into his experience with the cast and crew. “We got to hang around with the cast and see how they really work… they treated us very well….Pam (Fryman) took time to talk with my daughter and explained the ins and outs of the set.” David added, “We loved watching them film, but joking around with Neil in between takes was even more fun!”

David, who would love to return to the set again, described the role he played on the episode. “I played the role of a bar patron, while my daughter played Director.  She wasn’t old enough to be in the bar scene, but was perfectly content taking in the sights, sounds and activities of the day, and is already planning the trip for next year.”

“We are thrilled that Ray and his daughter were able to win this trip and have such a great time. We felt like it would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for someone, and we are so happy to hear that it was,” said Margaret “Sam” Bays of The Denton Benefit League. Mrs. Bays made this package possible through her “connection” with her stepson Carter Bays.

Carter Bays, along with Craig Thomas, is the co-creator, co-writer, and co-executive producer of the CBS sitcom, ‘How I Met Your Mother’ which has been nominated for 6 primetime Emmy Awards. Carter is the son of Denton native, Jim Bays and grandson of Mary Claude Gay, who was one of the founding members of the Denton Benefit League.  “Carter is so happy to be able to offer this package in honor of his grandmother” said Margaret (Sam) Bays.

The Denton Benefit League Charity Ball will once again offer the Featured Extra Package as well as many other exciting packages at this year’s Charity Ball to be held on April 17, 2010 at TWU Hubbard Hall.
