Memorial fund established for first-grader

A memorial fund has been established for Jensen Wright, a first-grade student at Ryan Elementary School in south Denton who died Tuesday at Denton Regional Medical Center.

The seven-year-old was known and liked by many students at the school and within the Denton ISD community.

“Jensen was an excellent student; she was a student who enjoyed reading. She loved school and was so eager to come to Ryan every day,” said Ryan Principal Gary Miller.

At Ryan Elementary School, Jensen was named a Rockin’ Wrangler, the highest honor that can be bestowed on a student at that school. She also was a member of EXPO, the district’s gifted and talented program.

“We will all remember Jensen’s smile and the many hugs that she gave when she arrived at school and gave throughout the day. She was extremely kind to her classmates and especially to her younger brother, Jaden. She had lots of friends,” Mr. Miller said.

To contribute to the memorial fund, donations may be made to:
  Jensen Wright Memorial Fund
(Checks made payable to Jennifer Wright)
  DATCU
  P.O. Box 827
  Denton, TX. 76202

Contributions can be mailed to the address above or dropped off at any DATCU location.

To help the students and staff cope with this situation, additional district staff members, counselors and school psychologists are at the elementary school this week.

If parents need assistance, school officials said they should contact their school counselors or Larry Mankoff, coordinator of support services for Denton ISD, at (940) 369-0595.
