Calls to Sheriff’s Department down in Feb.

Calls for service to the Denton County Sheriff’s Department from Lantana and other Fresh Water Supply Districts around the county were sharply down in February.

The drop in calls was most likely due to the cold weather, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tom Reedy.

Four burglaries of unoccupied or under construction homes in the districts were reported to the Sheriff’s Department last month.

Reedy said that if you live near an unoccupied house, don’t hesitate to dial 911 if you see any suspicious activity. Also, if a house shows signs of being unoccupied, such as an unkempt lawn or piled-up mail, notify your district’s board of directors or homeowner’s association.

The Sheriff’s Office received three reports of identity theft during the month.

Reedy said that residents can protect their personal and financial information by visiting the Federal Trade Commission website for suggestions to help prevent identity theft.

He also recommends that residents make copies of all their credit and bank cards or write down account numbers and keep them in a safe place.
